Pingback Strategy
Video Transcript
Wouldn’t it be nice if you could get several high authority blogs in your niche to add a link to your website every time you published a post?
Imagine if you could get these links without the hassle of organizing a link exchange and without the need to leave comments on their blogs.
Well, in this video I’d like to show you exactly how you CAN do this using Market Samurai’s Promotion module.
Pingback Strategy
The strategy we’re going to look at is called a Pingback. So let’s take a look at how it works...
Imagine two different blogs that both relate to the same niche. For example, my sample blog about piano for beginners and someone else's blog about piano keyboards.
Ping
If I create a link on my blog to the keyboard blog, Wordpress will automatically send a message to the keyboard site to indicate that I’ve created a link.
This message is called a ‘ping’.
Check
If the keyboard blog allows pingbacks, here’s what happens.
First of all the keyboard blog checks to see that I really did create a link.
Pingback
When it confirms that my link is legitimate, the keyboard blog then adds a pingback on the webpage that I linked to.
Backlink
The pingback is usually a very brief summary of what I said in my blog post and most importantly it includes a link back to my website.
You’ll often find pingbacks near the comments section on a blog.
So essentially, a pingback is a link that points back to your blog from a website that you’ve referred to in one of your posts.
Some Important Points
Now there’s a couple of things to keep in mind here.
(1) First, not all blogs allow pingbacks
(2) And second, Pingbacks are sometimes moderated by the blog owner so they don’t always appear instantly.
However, if you can find some good quality websites in your niche which allow pingbacks, they can be a useful source of backlinks which can provide you with traffic and potentially enhance your link network.
The BIG Question
So the big question is - How do you find good quality blogs in your niche that allow pingbacks.
The good news is that Market Samurai now makes the process of finding relevant blogs and creating pingbacks extremely easy. So lets take a look and I’ll show you how it works.
Promotion Tab
To get started I’ll just come down here and click the promotion tab.
Search Criteria
Now because the pingback strategy is only relevant for blogs, I’ll be focusing on this area here.
For this search I’m going to select Google Blogs, Wordpress blogs, Follow Blogs and Backlink magic.
Find Backlinks
And to begin my search, I’ll click on the Find Backlinks button.
Analyze Data
Now what I really want to do is to identify the highest authority blogs in my niche that allow pingbacks. The easiest way to do this is to come down here and click the Analyze All button.
Sort Data
I can then come up and click on the column headings to sort my data in a number of different ways.
If I click on the PR column heading, I can sort the sites by Page Rank which is an indicator of authority.
Identify Pingback Candidate
And you can now see that this site might provide a good backlinking opportunity. It has a page rank of 3, four current backlinks and it allows pingbacks.
Check Article Manually
Now rather than just accepting these numbers, you should always manually check the website to make sure that it is relevant to your niche.
And this looks like a reasonable article that has some useful information.
Select Article For Pingback
So returning to my research data, I might decide that I would like to create a link to this website in order to get a pingback.
The first thing I need to do is click this checkbox.
Create Pingback HTML Window
Market Samural then opens the Create Pingback HTML window and automatically populates it with a link and summary of this website.
Add Additional Websites
If I want to add another website of interest all I have to do is scroll down an click the checkbox...
Additional Site Added to Pingback
... and market samurai adds it to my list.
Pingback Options
I should also point out that I can choose to display these links in a list, or in a table and I can also choose whether I want the websites to open up in a new window, and whether I want my links to include the ‘no follow’ attribute.
For this example, I’ll choose to display my website links as a list.
Copy Visual
Now that I have a list of relevant articles from sites that allow pingbacks, what I’d really like to do is add this list to one of my existing posts in order to start the backlinking process.
The good news is that market samurai makes this very easy to do.
All I have to do is click the Copy Visual button to copy my list to the clipboard...
Access Publish Content Module
...and then i can go across and access the Publish Content module.
Access My Blogs
Here you can see my Wordpress Direct account, and if I click on the title it will bring back a list of my blogs.
Access Blog Posts
When I click on my blog name, Market Samurai then pulls back a list of my current posts.
Select and Edit Post
I can then decide which post I’d like to ad my links to and then click the pencil icon to edit it.
Add Text to Article
If I scroll to the end of my article, I can add a line of text to say something like ‘Here is a list of articles that you may enjoy’
Paste in Pingback HTML
I can then click my right mouse button and select paste to paste in my links from my clipboard.
Publish
When I’m done, I can click the Publish button.
Update Existing Article
And to update my article all i have to do is click the ‘Update Existing Article’ button.
Review Updated Article
And here is my updated article with my new links.
Summary
So in less than ten minutes, you can now identify high authority blogs in your niche, find out which of these blogs support pingbacks, automatically generate your pingback HTML and add your links to an existing post to kickstart the pingback process.
Ping
When you update your article, Wordpress will let the other blogs know about your new links.
Check
These blogs will verify the legitmacy of your links...
Pingback
...and then either immediately or after moderation, add a pingback to their site that features a link pointing back to your webpage.
So that’s how to use the promotion module in Market Samurai to create backlinks to your website using the Pingback strategy.
By the way - if you have an existing blog with a lot of existing content, you can repeat this process for each blog post, and build hundreds of quality backlinks to your existing blog. This is a powerful, and underutilized way to build backlinks to your site.
Anthony,
Isn't this just a basic reciprocal link?
If so, I thought the current thinking is to avoid them.
Thanks for your superb tutorials,
Phil B
Why is it a powerful strategy?
I thought reciprocal links are not THAT powerful? I thought one must strive only for one way links or three way links, and NOT reciprocal links?
I'd be truly grateful if you could clarify.
Thanks!
Excellent feature. Your tutorials are great. I also really like the fact you write out your videos and set out the slides. I much prefer reading a tutorial than watching videos. Thanks!
I find it incredible hard to find sites for pretty large keyword searches using the exact steps in the video. Are the results that are returned matched on exact match basis or broad match?
Do you have any tips if nothing is coming back.
Example to use is "restaurant review manchester"
Hello. Do you happened to know how to allow pinbacks and trackbacks on blogspot/blogger? I'm having a hard time. Thanks in advance and more power!
My Blog is in AtomWord; will Noble Samurai work with AtomWord? If so, how?
Walter
This is great information that even a beginner can use.
Can you use the pingback strategy with Google Blogger? Do you know if Google Blogger sends out the ping and does the check, etc. as you described? Please respond back. I appreciate it.
I\'ve gone through almost all your videos and am captivated. EXCELLENT JOB! This makes me know your customer service is great. Keep up the great work!
Do I have to use wordpress for this to work? What about expressionengine?
Unfortunately it does not work in my country :-(
It only finds google blogs entries. It marks many blogs as FOLLOW, but often they are nofollow or it is not possible to make comments at all.
Ella
A natural range of links to your site is required, there is nothing natural about going to a service and having 500 one links apear for your new site in the first week of publishing all with laser targetted anchor text. For instance a blog linking service will post your articlew and links on 100's of crappy sites full of spammy articles - yes its a one way link, will google place any weight on it - unlikely.
Pingbacks and trackbacks have been around since before Google and are recognised as the way the blogosphere works and are seen and counted by Google.
Just take a look at how many backlinks Yahoo says you have and how many Google says you have - Yahoo will typically show much much more as google identify whether they are relevant links or not and only count what they perceive to be relevant!
Pingbacks and trackbacks (done with care and relevance) but no.1 way to get rankings?
Provide Content visitors want - do that and build credibility with relevance and you will get results far better than trying to rank a Spammy affiliate or adsense site.
P.S. I'm a professional SEO but you can have that for free ;)
Iain
Iain,
Thanks for answering Ella\'s question! Most SEO advice we get out there says ...
\"a few reciprocal links here and there is fine, but DO NOT do it for hundreds of links!!! No No No!!....\"
While other SEO experts say ... \"It\'s ok, pingbacks \"do\" work....\"
This is when \"I\" say... \"I guess I\'ll just have to test it for myself....\"
Thanks for clarifying the ever so slight difference :)

Great lesson on pingbacks. I didn\'\'t see a response to an earlier question of using the pingback strategy with Google Blogger? Can this strategy be used with Google Blogger or not and wha\'s the procedure.
RE: Pingback strategy video... I am confused. If I create a link to the niche authority blog, aren't i giving them more juice and then out-competing myself?? Why would I want to do this?
@Walter RE: Atomword
Unfortunately Market Samurai only works with Wordpress sites.
RE: Pingbacks on platforms other than Wordpress.
Pingbacks is a feature that is specific to Wordpress so it will only work on Wordpress sites.
very interesting how ping backs work and how easy Market Samurai call add these ping back and have them verified
Hi there,
I really like your videos, they are tremendously informative. Can you please expend a bit on the question of "no-follow-link". Why yes or why not?
@Owala
The support team at support@noblesamurai.com will be able to help you
Answering question Nr. 14 is critical in assessing the usefullness of this strategy and I am asking myself the very same question. An answer would be much appreciated. Thx

@David - I think the idea is that the resulting link from the high-authority site back to you does you more good than your link will do for them. You're looking for sites which are more established and authoritative than your own site, of course, since it's of little use to seek out pingbacks from sites which are of lesser status than yours...
Great post dear, it is a new topic for me and it also surprised me how one can get site ranked from this tool
